There are three basic types of Murphy Bunk Beds in two main categories. A panel bed has got its name because of the cabinet the front panel is mounted on the underside that conceals the bed when it is in a collapsed position. They are the most flexible when it comes to space. Panel beds come with two different types of bed mechanisms – spring loaded and piston drive. Bifold beds have an open metal bed frame that folds into a wardrobe with bifold doors. These are usually mounted on spring loaded bed mechanisms.
Most spring loaded mechanisms require floor attachments. The carpet must be cut and removed to allow the hardware, and permanent damage can be made to the floor, making the bed a more permanent fixture. Wall mounted panel beds usually attach to three wall rails and can easily be removed with some repairs needed. A fourth type is the floating or suspended Murphy Bunk Beds that attaches to the wall with a hinge system and requires no cabinets. The underside is often decorative and can be mixed into the interior of the room. Choose the type of bed that best suits you. Whichever type you choose, buy a complete system and cabinet plan will see the best results.homemade murphy bed, murphy bunk beds
